A page dedicated to sites by home educated (or previously home educated) teenagers and young adults. Sometimes people who aren't sure about home education wonder whether people who have not been to school can possibly integrate into society, or communicate. This small selection of sites and blogs by teenagers or young adults who were home educated shows a wide variety of interests, and - on the whole - communication skills that are at least as good as those of similar aged people who have been to school.
If you are - or were - a home educated teenager, and have a site or blog with more than one page, and you think it might be interesting to others, please let me know at the address at the side. I am happy to review any such sites, and add them to this page if I think they would be useful additions.
The first three items listed are my sons' sites:
Brummie@sea - blog started when my son joined the 'floating bookshop' MV Doulos, to do a two-month short course. He then signed up for a longer-term period, and continued the blog sporaically through two years of commitment from the age of nineteen.
It's about time too - starting out on a degree course from the Open Theological College. Very intermittent posting!
Madprof's workshop - art, programming reviews, web design and games. A site made - but never completed - by my older son when he was about fifteen.
Deborah Drapper's blog - professional looking blog by a thirteen-year-old who writes about home education, scientific theories and creationism.
Jazzaroo - very interesting blog written by a teenage girl from Scotland who is being home educated while their family is taking a trip around the world on a yacht.
Jamboree - excellent site run by three home educated teenagers
Matthew's hideout - comprehensive site with articles about school problems, and the discovery of home education for a teenager with dyspraxia
Mish-mash of stuff - 13-year-old Dan from Scotland writes about words, animals and plants on his blog
The ramblin' Irishman - highly professional-looking site by a homeschooled teenager who is now studying at college. Links, book reviews, message boards and information.
Liberteen - by Rowan, a home educated teenager in the UK. Articles, quotations and more
Impressive Pizza - Emily from Canada writes about her life from a Christian perspective
Strangely Normal - interesting blog from someone calling himself 'NeoFascist?'; a conservative Christian thinking through many issues
Edible insects - all you ever wanted to know (and a great deal more) about entomophagy
Blog of Bonnie J - online diary and thoughts from an American home educated teenager
Ali's site - games and puzzles by an American homeschooled teenager. A site that has been running since 1997.
