General home education and parenting links

There are many sites for home educators around the world, particularly in the USA. A search for 'homeschool' will produce thousands of them.  Here are just a few that may be of relevance to those home educating in the UK.

AERO (Alternative Education Resource Organisation) is a site dedicated to all kinds of non-traditional education - whether at home or in a classroom. Based in America but with useful information and resources for all.

A to Z Home's Cool - a huge resource of homeschoolilng information - most of it based in the USA, but much of it is relevant and useful to anyone home educating. Links, articles, resources, local groups, regulations and more.

Education Otherwise is a home education 'umbrella' organisation in the UK. Membership costs about fifteen pounds sterling per year and includes a bi-monthly newsletter. There are helplines and some local groups organised by EO; the web site gives further details and some information about home education.

Education Sense has ideas about increasing understanding of home education, support, resources, and an excellent section about clearing clutter in the home.

Free Range Education - the site related to the book of the same name, including legal information written by a lawyer, and some excellent examples of educational philosophies.

Home Education Advisory Service site gives more information and answers to some frequently asked questions.

Home Ed UK is a site with a Christian focus, giving plenty of information and links. It also has some anecdotes and insights about family life and home education.

Home Education Magazine has an online newsletter, a networking and discussion board, and plenty of information about home education. The discussion board is a way of sharing information, posting queries or answering questions online, without your email address being available for everyone to see on the page. You have to register to answer messages on the board, but can read previous queries and replies. This site is based in the USA but there is an international section.

Home Education UK is a resource site with information about local groups, children's issues, education news, and mailing lists.

Home Service is an organisation for Christian home educators in the UK, with membership costing ten pounds per year. It provides legal advice, and a newsletter three times per year. The web site has several articles about Christian home education and raising children.

Freedom in education - a monthly newsletter about all aspects of education, and freedom in learning at all stages. Covers home education and schools following the philsophies of educators such as Rudolf Steiner and Maria Montessori.

Let's Homeschool has educational resources, primarily for Americans, but also with information about home education in New Zealand, Canada and the UK.

Motherwise is a site about many issues related to being a parent, including a useful section about home education. The site also deals with health, various parenting questions, and education in general.

MuddlePuddle is an excellent site devoted to parents of children under the age of about eight. It has resources and links to activity sites

Schoolhouse offers information to parents in Scotland, where the law is not quite the same as in England and Wales, although home education is becoming increasingly popular.

UKParents has many parenting resources, dealing with issues from conception through to teenagers leaving home.
